Remote Commencement

The University of Melbourne expects all graduate researchers, both international and domestic, to undertake their research on campus. While international travel restrictions are in place, we may only facilitate remote commencement if your research can be initiated from your home location and you can make progress at the same level as if you were on campus. This provision is limited to the period of COVID-19 travel restrictions.

If you are residing in Australia, you are expected to commence your research on campus — only in exceptional circumstances will you be allowed to start remotely.

If you wish to commence remotely, the requirements below apply.

Please note that The University of Melbourne is unable to provide the standard insurance cover for graduate researchers enrolled remotely. You may need to consider private insurance for your circumstances and location.

You may only proceed further if you have been granted a pre-approval for remote commencement.
